Default Mohaa game will not start error 1000

When I try to start Medal of Honor Allied Assault with
Windows XP-SP1, the game hangs, in my event viewer I get
the following event error 1000:
Faulting application mohaa.exe, version 1.2.1.280,
faulting module gamex86.dll, version 0.0.0.0, fault
address 0x000ddd66.

as well as a Dr Watson event 4097:
The application, C:\Program Files\EA
GAMES\MOHAA\MOHAA.exe, generated an application error The
error occurred on 09/26/2003 @ 12:13:45.502 The exception
generated was c0000005 at address 310DDD66 (gamex86!
GetGameAPI)

Thank you.

Try to reinstall the game and all patches and update your video card
drivers. The game works fine here: Radeon 9500 PRO on a MSI motherboard P4
2.4. Also list your setup. CPU, video card, MB etc.

Setup is a Dell Latitude C640 Laptop, P4 - 2Ghz with 1G
of RAM, Mobility Radeon 7500C display adapter.

I've tried unistalling and re-installing several times.
I'll try doing it one last time. I was told I may have to
re-install the O/S, this is a new system, I really don't
want to have to do that.
