Default Windows XP install problems

When I try to install Windows XP professional I get an abrupt shut-down when
commencing to start copying the files for install.

When the install process gets past:

Setup is Starting Windows it plays a siren type beep through the PC speaker
and it halts immediately. I know this sounds bad but the system seems to
be a very healthy news system. 2200 AMD Athlon, 512mb ddr, 80gb hd, 52x
cdr. I'm using a fairly minimlistic setup with on-board sound and video.
The motherboard is a Gigabyte RZ2004.

Any ideas?

Default Re: Windows XP install problems

Well, the beep isn't XP, that's an alert from your motherboard, you'll need
to check the manual or the motherboard manufacturer's website for the
meaning of the beep.

If you have a previous OS that was installed on this system and it was
functional, I suggest you reinstall it assuming your hard drive is currently
blank, then from that desktop, place the XP CD in the drive, when the setup
screen appears, select "Check System Compatibility" as it search for any
hardware or software issues on your system. NOTE: this is a preinstall
precaution, as I said previously, that beep is a warning from your
motherboard and usually indicates some type of hardware issue.
