Problem copying files from one hard drive to another in XP Home

I hope someone can help me with this...
I am having trouble copying files from one hard drive to another. I keep
getting the message that the drive I am trying to copy to is READ ONLY...I
have the 160 GB SATA Seagate drive installed as my primary hard drive, and a
second Ultra ATA 160 GB installed on IDE as slave to the optical drive.... i
notice i cannot directly copy files in explorer from one hard drive to the
other. The drives are marked "read only" in explorer and I cannot change that
setting. Well, I can change it but the second I hit ok, then go back to
properties, there it is again "read only." I have no trouble copying from
CD/DVD to either drive or from the internet to my harddrives. But, simply
cannot copy from one hard drive to another because it keeps it READ ONLY.

PSU: XION 450W SuperNova

Video: NVIDIA GForce 6800 (Leadtek PX 6800 256M)

Memory: Crucial 1GB, 400, DDR2, two sticks

Drives: Seagate SATA 160GB hardrive, Maxtor Ultra/ATA 160GB harddrive set as
slave to optical drive on IDE channel, HP DVD burner (master on IDE channel)

Try HD as Master and Optical as Slave.
