Connection speed

I have a new Dell 4600 and it operates at about half the speed of my old Compaq.

The SBCGlobal provider claims they offer 56K but when I connect the speed show is only 26K.

I have checked all the settings and the modem is an approved MS compliant modem.

Anyone else have this problem?

Talk with SBC; there may be modem incompatibilities. They may offer
another # to phone that has modems with different characteristics.
May things can affect performance. Check these sites...

More than likley it's your phone line is the issue, and
also could be the driver that your using for your modem,
have SBC check your phone line for noise

you connection software settings, the internet settings in the device manager
or the modem settings. check them all and delete any cookies and cache files
as they too can bog you down when exessive.
