CDROM system hang on burning and playing audio

I am getting a system hang when burning data to disc. CD
locked into drive which looks like it is still recording
but the user interface (Nero) freezes (usually with a
complete system freeze.

I think it may be related to playing audio CD which
will 'stick' and system freeze some way in to audio CD and
requires a system boot to escape.

Does anyone have any ideas on this.

Latter happens with DVD ROM as well and with different
CD's.
