Default XP Registration code/

I recently reinstalled XP after repartitioning my hard
drive for a dual boot system and altering a few bios
settings and a jumper setting. I used my product ID to
generate a code which is different to the original code I
generated when I activated over the phone. As the computer
isn't connected to the internet I had hoped to use the
original activation code but this doesn't work. As a
compulsive tweaker this isn't exactly convenient. If I can
discover my original bios and motherboard settings should
my activation work with the regenerated product key or is
this a randomly generated value? I understood that XP
didn't look at the hard drive when registering, is this
tha case or is a partitioned drive seen differently?
