Default PROBLEM WITH BURNING ON CD-RW

I will be grateful if you can help with my SAMSUNG COMBO
SM-304B CD-ROM Drive. (Operating platform XP Pro)

I can play DVD, open files on CDR, burn to CDR. If I
insert a CD-RW however, it takes ages to open and if I
try to burn, it comes up with error messages like write
protected, bad lock or could not perform fixation.

Thanks, and I look forward to your feedback.

Regards
Abdul-Habib

If you're trying to burn on a CD-ROM drive you'd better
get comfortable--it's going to be a long wait.

Evidently, this is a common problem with that drive. Try updating its
firmware before you give up. Here is a newsgroup thread from Dell's support
forum discussing the same problem.
