Default DNS Client crashing

I Recently upgraded a Dell Latitude 810 laptop from Win 2K pro to XP pro.
It's a dual-use configuration - standalone undocked, and networked in
docking station. There are two network clients installed - Windows and
Novell.

Whenever I boot in the docked configuration, about 5 minutes after bootup
completes I get an Application Error popup that reads "The instruction at
"0x77e7da62" referenced memory at "0x00000034". The memory could not be
'read'."
The event viewer shows an error at the same time as this popup, with the
following description: "The DNS Client service terminated unexpectedly. It
has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in
60000 milliseconds: Restart the service."

(It does a restart because I've confuigured the recovery options that way)
When I click on the "for more information" link, it takes me to a web page
that says to run SC Query on the failing service. When I do that, I get the
following:
SERVICE_NAME: dnscache
TYPE : 20 WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS
STATE : 1 STOPPED

(NOT_STOPPABLE,NOT_PAUSABLE,IGNORES_SHUTDOWN)
WIN32_EXIT_CODE : 1067 (0x42b)
SERVICE_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0)
CHECKPOINT : 0x0
WAIT_HINT : 0x0

What's happening here?
How do I fix it?
