Default Maxtor Drive DMA Conflict?

I have a second Maxtor 80GB drive installed in my EMachine system. The
problem is that whenever I run anything from the second drive, like
video (avi or Mpg or sound), whenever the drive light flashes, it
causes the video or sound to jerk. This occurs every 1 or 2 seconds. I
had this problem solved somehow before then a few days ago I upgraded
from XP home to XP Professional and the problem came back. Research
indicated it may be a DMA probem, can anyone help?

Thanks

John

Hey thanks Jason, that helped - it was a PIO problem, I fixed by
updating the IDE drivers.

Thanks again
