Default Shortcut linkfiles corrupt

All my Windows shortcuts have no file associated with them. The .LNK file (must have been a DLL) is either corrupt or missing. I don't know if it is a Registry problem or not. Any suggestions?

Associations can be easily reinstated (if that's the problem), using
Doug's link below...
Click on XP-FIXES, then on "restore default file associations easily".
