Default xp won't start

I need help! My XP Home Edition won't start up. I mean
that my computer starts up but only that wall paper is
present. No icons, start-up menu. I tried F8, which
allows me to start the laptop with the last good
configuration. This was no help. I know I should try to
use the recovery disk, but I don't have it. Does any one
have any other ideas.

Thanks
..

I am having the exact same problem. I have just recently
upgraded a lot of the hardware on my system, and I
believe you must reactivate windows xp within 3 days of
upgrading. By reactivating is impossible because I only
get a blank blue activation window.
If anyone has any suggestions, it would be much
appreciated.
Thanks,
Kristen
