Wireless Desktop Receiver

I have a wireless desktop pro, recently the mouse broke and I bought a replacement( both mice are the same model, Wireless mouse 2.0 ) I would like to know if there is anyway I can just use the receiver for the wireless desktop for both devices, or am I stuck with both of them? I have already tried pushing the connect button on the mouse and on the receiver, this didn't do anything. Windows XP did detect the mouse's battery level and signal strength when I checked in the Intellipoint software, so does this mean it's possible?
