Default hp6100C scanner on scsi card

I found a driver for it that works, but when I turn the
scanner on, then select the desktop icon to start the
software, I get "Scanner Not Found". If I go into Device
Manager, click Update Hardware, then start the software,
it works fine.

Any ideas? It's a mild annoyance.

SCSI devices must be turned on before the PC boots. SCSI signals get reset
during the boot-up and/or device detection.
