Default Old HD not recognized after MB change

I replaced my old motherboard with a new one. Both BIOS
and booting up recognize the existence of the WD-40 hard
drive, but when getting to the window for choosing to
restore or install WinXP I get the error that the HD is
not present, check power connection, etc. All
connections, cables, power supply, and hard drive are
good. Using AMD XP1800, WinXP Home, Shuttle AK39N MB,
300w power supply. Swapping out all hardware only
produces the same error. I am trying to use the restore
function on WinXp to access the drive if I can, but am
ready to re-do (format) the whole thing if need be, but I
can't even do that.
Any help appreciated! Thanks.

You'll need to do a Repair Installation of XP

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) (Repair) of Windows XP
