modem does not work

My modem is installed on the computer, but the network
services cant make an internet connection with the modem.
My remote access things dont start either. The modem use
to work until i had to repair Win xp, which deleted all
the updates i already downloaded as well as a bunch of
things that i dont know what happened. could someone tell
me how to fix this

Reinstall all updates, starting with SP1.

how do u reinstall all the updates without being able to conect using your dailup modem? only thing i've been able to come up with to fix this problem is reinstalling the os doing a repartion delete old and recreate format and install
