Default mouse goes crazy

I have an IBM Thinkpad with a Trackpoint. I have recently
and frequently had episodes where my mouse goes crazy. I
have the most recent IBM trackpoint driver installed, and
have not had this problem before. I ried reinstalling
this driver to no avail. At aparently random times, the
mouse will fly all over the screen, clicking items
randomly when I try to move the mouse. The problem seems
software related as it will stop when I use the keyboard.
For example, the escape key seems to help as does ALT
SPACE and then M (minimize). I am not using the
Trackpoint's "press to select" ability. I have been
strugling to remove some adware related to internet-
optimizer.com and the problem surfaced after that, though
I am not sure it's related. Any guesses?

If it was just flying around at times, cleaning the mouse
hardware would be in store. But with the clicking items,
you most likely have a virus on the system.
