Hello:
I am trying to configure my PC to dual boot Windows XP Home. My main and original install is on drive C:\ -- first partition of primary master hard drive. I copied the install to the first partition of the secondary hard drive using Partition Magic 7.0. It is logical drive H: in the boot from Drive C:\. I can read the new XP boot partition and access its files just fine. The XP boot loader appears to have found the second copy just fine. Here is my boot.ini file from Drive C:. [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (#1)" /fastdetect If I select the first (original) XP from the boot menu, it boots just fine as before. But if I select the new drive for boot, I immediately get the following error message... Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware. I gather I need to change something else in the copied partition to make this work? Or can I boot XP from the secondary (slave) hard drive? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jess |
