Default modem question 2 parts

1st part- When windows xp comes up when turning on the
computer, a message saying the modem is too old of a
version. How do I get this to stop coming up, or where
can I get the update?

2nd part- The modem I have came with modem on hold
software. This worked fine on Windows 98, but was erased
when I upgraded to XP. I've downloaded a few other caller
id programs, but they won't work, and the phone just
rings and rings without any id coming up. Who do I get
these to work?

It would be useful if you would tell us what make and model
of modem you have.

The modem needs to have XP drivers correctly installed. With correct
drivers installed, them you should not get the message (part 1) and the
"on-hold" feature (part 2) should work correctly. If you are using the
default XP generic drivers for your modem, then the two problems you have
may continue.
