Default windows could not start

I got the following error message when I start the
computer: "windows could not start because the following
file is missing or corrupt |WINDOWS|SYSTEM32|CONFIG|SYSTEM.
("|" is backslash).
I'm using only one operating system(XP Pro) on computer.
Please,help me to fix. Thanks.
