Default modem problem

Greetings,

I am trying to connect to the net with my Dell P4 desktop. No
problem, been doing it for months. I come home today and my son tells
me that his baseball game he has been playing did something wierd,
tried to connect to the internet and then failed.

I tried to connect and it gives me the message that the modem cannot
access the com port because the com port is in use by another
application. I cannot figure out what might be using the port. When
I did the modem troubleshooter, Norton popped up at one point telling
me that the hh.exe file was doing something suspicious and did I want
to run the script or not. It does not matter what I do, I still can't
dial out.

Now the wierd part. I run Norton Antivirus. No virus found. I
reboot the computer. I CAN connect. I disconnect. I can't connect
again. I reboot the computer. I can't connect. I run a virus scan.
No virus found. I reboot, I can connect. Virus defs are 1 day old! I
can't figure it out.

No suspicious things in the event viewer. I uninstalled and
reinstalled the modem. Any other suggestions I might try?

Default modem problem

Did you try uninstalling the game and then rebooting the
PC?

System restore? start button, programs, tools, accessories, system
tools. Choose a recent point before the problem began.
