When trying to install a firewall, I get to the dial up,
click on America Online, and the option to change and enable the firewall won't open. The line directly under the title for internet carrier states "disconnected." I can open LAN and install a firewall but not AOL, which is my internet connection. |

AOHell digs deep into any version of Windows and changes things to their way
of thinking. There is nothing you can do about it, if you want to keep AOHell. Suggestion = get a real ISP! Get rid of this kiddy service. If you are intelligent enough to find your way here, you can use any ISP without difficulty. Try your local phone company even! Had the same problem and called AOL. They referred me to
Microsoft. Microsoft sent me back to AOL, and they finally admitted that AOL was not compatible with the free XP firewall. Nothing you can do, short of changing ISPs. >-----Original Message----- >When trying to install a firewall, I get to the dial up, >click on America Online, and the option to change and >enable the firewall won't open. Greetings --
You'll either need to find a 3rd party firewall that is compatible with AOL, or switch to a real ISP that is compatible with the real Internet.. AOL is an on-line content provider that ignores international Internetworking standards in favor of its own proprietary products, and has deliberately made its connection software incompatible with both WinXP's built-in firewall and WinXP's Internet Connection Sharing feature. AOL's proprietary connection applet is deliberately designed to preclude your setting/adjusting any of its properties, to include enabling/disabling WinXP's ICF and ICS. Bruce Chambers -- Help us help you: http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html You can have peace. Or you can have freedom. Don't ever count on having both at once. -- RAH "Nancy" <Njwilhite1@aol.com> wrote in message news:0b3301c38474$a09fb600$a401280a@phx.gbl... > When trying to install a firewall, I get to the dial up, > click on America Online, and the option to change and > enable the firewall won't open.
