How have you connected the DVD to the MB ... which IDE is it on?

How often does this happen, and is it seen in the BIOS (the first thing you see when your PC is turned on)?

Which DMA mode is it set to?

I've had two DVD ROM drives, both about two years old, die on me recently. Both started showing the same symptoms as described above, not being recognised, then would only be recognised as P10 mode if they were.

And sometimes they just wouldn't read any discs at all, other times they would.

Tried updating firmware - still the same.

So, it's possible it may be on the way out, but just as likely to be some other cause.

Lost both my drives. Bios says they are there, Device Manager says they are there but with an exclamation mark, but there is no sign of them in My Computer. If I sort it I will post cure.
