Using the links from Walter, not owning or trying the model camcorder, it's
best to assume it won't work directly with Movie Maker, and you'll need to do file conversions before importing. Movie Maker was designed to work with DV camcorders connected by firewire. Anything connected by USB either doesn't work with it, or is dependent on your system configuration and installed codecs... a hit and miss situation, mostly missing. -- PapaJohn www.papajohn.org "julie" <chadburn809@btinternet.com> wrote in message news:yvCdnfG8GuICznbUnZ2dnUVZ8uGdnZ2d@bt.com... > Hi. > > Can anyone confirm that the files produced by a Samsung MX20 camcorder can > be read by Movie Maker running on Windows XP with Service Pack 3? > > Cheers > |

Not that I'll commit that particular make/model cam to memory, but generally speaking ... Is it a reasonably safe assumption that any DV camcorder that connects via Firewire is more than likely compatible with WMM "out of the box" as they say? Thanks. |

yes... the mini-DV models are those that connect by firewire........ they
record to little cassette tapes, not to hard drives, flash drives, or DVDs. There are fewer such models available as others have taken over the general public's preferences. But the general public doesn't do video editing. -- PapaJohn www.papajohn.org "walter" <walter@none.invalid> wrote in message news:gsfpbj$9jl$1@news.motzarella.org... > PapaJohn wrote: > >> Using the links from Walter, not owning or trying the model >> camcorder, it's best to assume it won't work directly with Movie >> Maker, and you'll need to do file conversions before importing. >> >> Movie Maker was designed to work with DV camcorders connected by >> firewire. Good thing I did my homework before purchasing my Canon mini-DV cam then. :-) It worked with XP and WMM "out of the box" via firewire. Only problem I've ever had wasn't the cams fault. XP suddenly decided to have Firewire "issues" which I posted the (or at least MY) fix to right here in this newsgroup. As an aside? My Canon mini-DV will capture to a card as well as tape, but I've never tried importing video to WMM that's been captured that way. In fact? I've never tried capturing with a card inserted at all. Looks like I just gave myself an assignment. :-) Regardless? Hopefully the OP asked the question in ANTICIPATION of purchasing the cam, and not after the fact. > "walter" <walter@none.invalid> wrote in message > news:gsfpbj$9jl$1@news.motzarella.org... >> PapaJohn wrote: >> >>> Using the links from Walter, not owning or trying the model >>> camcorder, it's best to assume it won't work directly with Movie >>> Maker, and you'll need to do file conversions before importing. >>> >>> Movie Maker was designed to work with DV camcorders connected by >>> firewire.
