Thanks ============================================================= "I am getting a black American Megatrends screen when turning on my computer." Some computer manufacturers hide this screen from users by only displaying their brand name - such as Compaq or HP or Acer etc because it may be confusing to some. When the manufacturers name appears on the screen as the computer first starts there are actually some steps that the computer is going through in the background before you start to see the XP or Vista logo start to appear. This is called the POST screen. This is what you have described above. POST stands for Power On Self Test. This screen can usually be turned on or off. This normal, it is what most computer users see when their computer first starts. http://biorobots.cwru.edu/server/howto/buildcomp/POST/ [site included just for some graphical assurance - don't follow any steps] "after pressing f2 and enter we get a grey and blue screen - BIOS setup Utility with a system date of Tuesday 1/23/2007" Enter the BIOS again by selecting F2 On the first page presented where you can see the date you can use the up & down arrow on the keyboard to navigate to different sections of the page. http://biorobots.cwru.edu/server/howto/buildcomp/BIOS/ [site included just for some graphical assurance - don't follow any steps] Use the arrow keys until you are on the date. Normally when you move to a location or feature on the page that can be changed it will be highlighted. Look down the bottom of the screen and it will tell you how to change the numbers on the date i.e. it could say use the Page Up & Page Down buttons or it could say use the +/ - buttons on number pad to change the numbers within each field to the current date. Once the date has been changed usually you can press F10 to save the changes and exit. The system will ask you again - are you sure press Y for yes and the computer will restart going through this POST process again and then the system will start the Microsoft booting process and display the XP logo on the screen with the blue line scrolling across the page etc etc. If you don't want to see this POST screen, when the computer restarts after changing the date - press F1 and it will load the default values for the BIOS of which one of the changes will probably be to turn off this POST screen and only show you the manufacturer name instead hiding the rest of the procedure from you. What happened earlier to make this screen appear? Was there a power blackout or something? Hope this helps. -- Regards, Touch Base Report back on the results, good or bad so others may benefit |
