Default restart after changing display settings

I have a Radeon 9200 videocard with XP
the pixel size is too high,
when I change this in the properties to lower size and click OK, the PC
restarts
what's wrong ?

There may be nothing wrong. i.e. some hardware devices
require a reboot whenever altering Display settings.

Something is wrong, the PC should not just up and reboot when a display
setting is changed.
