Adding sound.

I am using Windows XP home edition and using MovieMaker.
The camera I use is a JVC GR-D290 using mini DV tapes.
The question I would like to ask is; how do I go about adding sound that is speech and music. On the front of my computer there are two inputs, one light green and one pink. I have tried to plug in a microphone in both, one at a time of course,but nothing happens. So how do you add sound.
