Since installing SP1 on my desktop, I have experienced a very frustrating
problem coming up over and over again. I try to set up or attach a USB device, and instead of connecting, I get a message that the driver can't be found and asking me to insert the disk. When I click that I don't have the disk, I invariably get a option to search for the driver, but it is never found. This has happened with two different flash drives, and just now I tried to set up a Pocket PC mobile device and got the same response. I have been using my laptop without SP1, and do not get these problems. It seems that the best thing might be to just get rid of SP1, but when I went to the installed updates window to try to uninstall it, I was not given that option. Any help to either get SP1 to start operating properly or to get rid of it will be appreciated. Thanks. -- Larry S |

Not sure if I do but probably, however since the install I believed I have
installed other programs, and I don't want to have other things stop working. How can I find the restore points I do have. -- Larry S "locoeng" wrote: > > Do you have a restore point set for before the SP1 update?'' > (http://www.vistax64.com/vista-hardw...oblems-sp1.html) > > > -- > locoeng > > Vista Ultimate 32/64 bit dual boot > Gigabyte EP35 DS3R > XFX GeForce 8600GT > Corsair 520HX > G.Skill DDR II 800 X2 gigs > Seagate 120GB (IDE) X2 > WD 750 (SATA) > Samsung SH203B SBO3 patched codeking > Pioneer 215L patched MCSE > NEC/Optiarc 7200S 1.06bt Liggy&Dee > Lite-On 20A1L BL06 -FB FBL EOS EOHT 6- > |

Hi Colin,
Thanks for your suggestion. I just emailed support from that page, and will hopefully get a helpful reply. It's nice to know that Microsoft is offering support, which I thought they had stopped doing. -- Larry S "Colin Barnhorst" wrote: > Free SP1 support is available from MS at > https://support.microsoft.com/oas/d...aspx?prid=11274 > > "Larry S." <LarryS@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:674008B1-7B3E-4E96-B2F7-AD6796229592@microsoft.com... > > Since installing SP1 on my desktop, I have experienced a very frustrating > > problem coming up over and over again. Good luck with it. MS offers free support for a number of things, including
installation problems with retail copies of Windows and for Windows Update problems for all users. Type 'system restore' in Start/Search + Enter. Click Next. On the list
page put a check in the box that says "Show retore points older than 5 days" below the window. Point the driver search to \Windows\System32. If the device is then found
post back for information on a permanent fix. -- "Larry S." <LarryS@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:674008B1-7B3E-4E96-B2F7-AD6796229592@microsoft.com... > Since installing SP1 on my desktop, I have experienced a very frustrating > problem coming up over and over again. I had different problems with SP1; background and icon distortion and sound
deletion; I immediately had the system restore itself to the point before SP1 installation and things went back to normal (I hope). I would start by going into the device manager and deleting the USB
installations. After you delete them, right click on any device in device manager and select "scan for hardware changes". This will reinstall the device. I have noticed this problem is more prevalant with cruzer mini drives than any other. If this does not work, I would try to find a new installation disk that has sp1 included. If you want to try to uninstall SP1, go to the following KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948537 "Larry S." wrote: > Since installing SP1 on my desktop, I have experienced a very frustrating > problem coming up over and over again.
