I am a Windows XP SP3 user and would like to upgrade to Vista, I have heard
that many programs will not run on Vista, including Microsoft Zune. Is there a way or a utility that will scan my computer and tell me what will not run. I am particularly concerned about my diabetes logging software. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Joe |

Download and run the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pr...adeadvisor.mspx You should visit the support web site of the manufacturer of your current software and see if they are supported in Vista. There may be new software updates available or new versions. As far as software compatibility, please see: Windows Vista AppReadiness: http://www.appreadiness.com/default.aspx -- Carey Frisch Microsoft MVP Windows Desktop Experience - Windows Vista Enthusiast --------------------------------------------------------------- "Joseph Ferraro" <jsjf@optonline.net> wrote in message news:485d68d6$0$11614$607ed4bc@cv.net... You do not give your computer specs, but assuming that you have enough
memory and your computer is not very old, follow Carey's links as long as you plan to upgrade to 32bit Vista and not 64bit. Since your diabetes logging program is of most concern for you, log into the mfg's website and see if they say anything about Vista compatibility. I would think they would by now. If not, email their support dept. At this point almost anything that runs on XP will run on Vista with very
few exceptions. Also I don't know who told you the Zune software doesn't work on Vista, but they are dead wrong. I've been running the Zune software since mid-2007 just fine. I can give you the low points of my experience. For one thing, if your diabetes is giving you retinopathy like mine is for me, you'd better make sure you have ample accesiblity equipment besides the jokes Microsoft thinks are adequate. Vista is not dearly as good with help in that department. After you get it going don't count on things you put on your desktop staying there and don't even think about going through "Documents and Settings" to ind your desktop. And if you move files over from your old machine or from backups onto Vista it will take it upon itself to put them where it wants them. Other than that and a few other things they claim it will do but it won't, everything else is fine, sorta. cmsix > > Thanks > Joe > > |

I was told by them that the software for Vista was in the FDA certification and approval process, and it will be out soon. So, you should check with the meter's manufacture to see where they stand on a Vista compliant software. You can always ask them for some free log books. They will send them to you. |

I would not advise anyone to "upgrade" to Vista. It has cost me about $400
in replacing programs/equipment that would not run and my HP printer would not run on it. My dealer tried to download an upgrade with no luck. I do a lot of photo work and XP had an excellent program where the film strip appeared across the bottom while one enlarged photo was above it. Not so with Vista. Stay with XP. Ed, Curious what kind of research you did before you upgraded? Did you run the Vista upgrade advisor tool? Don't waste your money, downgraded (or upgraded which ever way you look at
it) my laptop to XP, had to do a little searching for drivers but XP runs better than Vista ever did on this machine.
