Look again...
<QP> MORE INFORMATION Update information The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center: Download the 931696 package now. (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?Lin...amp;clcid=0x409) Release Date: January 31, 2007 </QP> ....although I'll admit that the download link takes you to a "We are sorry, the page you requested cannot be found" error, so my apologies. Windows Easy Transfer Companion was a beta anyway; it may have been pulled; cf. http://windowsvistablog.com/blogs/w...anion-beta.aspx and http://windowsvistablog.com/blogs/w...y-transfer.aspx And yes, that download link should be removed from KB931696 if the beta was pulled. I'll look into that for you. In any event, this has nothing to do with Windows Update. -- ~PA Bear Stacy wrote: > Sorry about he wrong newsgroup, but this link does not provde a download > to > WETC, it's only support documentation. > Thanks. > > "PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote: > >> How to use Windows Easy Transfer Companion to transfer programs from >> Windows XP with Service Pack 2 to Windows Vista: >> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931696/en-us >> >> Vista-specific newsgroups include: >> >> microsoft.public.windows.vista.administration_accounts_passwords >> microsoft.public.windows.vista.file_management >> microsoft.public.windows.vista.games >> microsoft.public.windows.vista.general >> microsoft.public.windows.vista.hardware_assessment >> microsoft.public.windows.vista.hardware_devices >> microsoft.public.windows.vista.installation_setup >> microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail >> microsoft.public.windows.vista.music_pictures_video >> microsoft.public.windows.vista.networking_sharing >> microsoft.public.windows.vista.performance_maintenance >> microsoft.public.windows.vista.print_fax_scan >> microsoft.public.windows.vista.security >> ~~ >> ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) >> MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 >> >> Stacy wrote: >>> Every link that I'm directed to leads t a dead page. I checked with several sources and have learned that the WET Companion was
withdrawn. It appears that it was pulled due to incompatibilities with both Vista SP1 and XP SP3. There is no indication of when it will be fixed or when it may be available again . Yes, as observed in other replies to this thread.

I hope someone at MS is paying attention and realizes what a powerful tool
WETC has been for many of us doing large scale software/computer migrations. Without something like this we'll be tempted to start cloning XP onto our new computers from the old ones. |
