Hi there,
I'm stuck in the middle of Vista SP1 installation with this error: "" !! 0xc01a001d !! 41662/75241 \Registry\machine\Schema\wcm://Microsoft " Then the system hangs and I have to reboot... I've contacted " Microsoft Vista service pack 1 Chat Support" but the only option I had was to restore everything. So you are my last chance... Philippe |

Based on the little info here I think MS is correct, except that I would
first try running the System File Checker and if that did not help do In Place Upgrade before resorting to a reinstall. An In Place Upgrade preserves your apps, files, and settings. That is Vista's version of a Repair Install in XP except that it is run from the Desktop instead of having to be done by booting with the media. To do it you need a Vista dvd to insert at the desktop. What I think MS is talking about are corrupted system files and catalogs. First try typing 'cmd' + Enter in Start/Search and then 'sfc /scannow' + Enter in the command window. Don't forget the space after sfc. System File Checker replaces bad system files from a cache on the hard drive or media. Hi Colin,
As no restore point was available, I had to resinstall Vista. It was the good time to install the SP1 pack... So once again, although MS tried to help me, I loose a certain number of precious settings, not to mention all my programs. However, something nice when you reinstall is that Vista copies the old Windows, AppData, Program Files and Program Data idirectories into Windows.old directory. Philippe |
