I am having a real hair puller with my PC. I had some problems last night
which got to the point where I couldn't even get into my BIOS. After resetting the cmos, I was able to enter setup and set my boot order. Booting with my recovery CD I was able to get to the "repair" function and did a startup repair. When my PC rebooted, however, it just went into an infinite loop. I can't boot into any of the Safe Mode options (I can get to a cmd prompt, however). So I thought I would try to boot into the recovery disc again and try some other option, but now the repair option isn't there. It just wants me to put in my product ID so it can reinstall Windows. What gives? Does anybody know how to get out of the loop or get back to the repair function? Thanks. |

Have you reset it in Bios to boot from your CD/DVD Drive this time?
Often, it will only stay in that boot Order for the one boot! If you get into the Repair, it should also give you the System Restore option. First off, yes, I was trying to boot to the CD/DVD drive and about half the time it wouldn't do it. Then, it just went back into the loop and would never get to windows. I finally got the recovery cd to boot but as I said, the second time I got it to boot, the repair option was no longer there. I finally just gave up and reinstalled, and now I have a similar problem. The new installation worked until a few minutes ago and now I can't get into Windows again. Its not even a loop -- just won't boot. I have another bootable CD that I can use to copy files, etc., but it now crashes the machine. Geez, I'm really getting aggravated here. I will try again to see if I can get the repair option. By the way, I am wondering if the new service pack might be guilty of some crime as I had just installed it. I also wonder if my hard drive is going bad. Or is it my Ram? Or does the PC just go out the window? And the sfc / scannow command. Where does one use it? From a command prompt in Windows? (Not if I can't get to Windows). Or what? Thanks |

Or what? > > Thanks > My problem appears to have been with one of my video cards. While booting yesterday, my screen went blank but I could hear the Windows startup sound. Plugged into my other card and now only one card appears in my devices list so, problem solved, I think. |
