Default Empty folders showing unopened items

I´m a newcomer to Vista and to make things more difficult for myself, I am
using the Portuguese version yet I am not overly familiar with this
language. I have Vista Home Premium.

After I have read my email and deleted from my folders, the folder view
still shows a number of unread items. If I close and re-open Windows Mail
the figures disappear.

I have looked through some recent posts and see mention of ghost messages in
Deleted Items, but in my case this shows up in all mail folders. I also saw
that it was asked a few times whether an anti-virus program is running, so
if this is relevant I am running AVG Internet Security 7.5.

Did you use the standard install for AVG? If so, it sometimes helps to
uninstall
it, then do a custom install where you tell it to leave out the part that
scans email.

http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download?prd=afe

Also, I don't believe you have the latest version of AVG.

I have downloaded v8.0 now but am waiting for a response from Grisoft on the
same issue before I install it without email scanning.
