Default Unknown error has occurred when deleting in Windows Mail

While in Windows Mail, when I'm trying to delete mail from sent items and
deleted items box, "unknown error has occurred" warning pops up, not allowing
me to permanentely delete both mailboxes. Any suggestions.

In Windows Mail, an unknown error is often due to interference from an
antivirus
program. What if any antivirus programs do you have?

For a temporary fix, download and install this hotfix, with Windows Mail not
running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know whether you have a 32-bit version
of Vista or a 64-bit version, try the hotfix for the 32-bit version first.
Update Vista SP1 also contains this hotfix, but takes longer to install.

I tried to download the link you sent to this and it came back and told me
that the update does not apply to my system. I cannot delete any emails that
come in. I would appreciate any help.
thank you

Did you try both the 32-bit version of the hotfix and the 64-bit version?
One
will refuse to install because it does not apply to your system, but often
not
both of them.

You could also try the WORKAROUND section of that site.

If all these fail to work, you could try the Vista SP1 update if you haven't
installed it already, but don't be surprised if this takes a few hours.

Also, what if any antivirus programs do you have?
