Default Trouble searching newsgroups in Windows Mail

Can someone provide some help in searching Windows Mail? When I used OE
under XP, I could search for a subject or author, obtain a list, click on
the one I want -- and that would take me to the desired thread. When I do
the same thing under Windows Mail, I am only able to read the specific
message I click on. If I want to read the whole thread, I still have to
scroll down a long list in an attemp to find it. Surely, I must be missing
something? How can I go back to the functionality of locating the thread?

I am using Vista Home Premium (full edition, not OEM).

Thanks,
MaryL

Thanks. Unfortunately, that only permits me to scroll through all the items
on screen. For example, searched by author, and your method lets me scroll
all through her messages. However, under OE (in XP) I would have been able
to click on a message and immediately see *everyone who responded* to that
thread. Is there a way for me to do the same thing in Windows Mail?

No, I simply opened "mail" and newsgroups. However, there were two forms of
searching. One was "advanced" and worked exactly like what I am seeing in
Windows Mail. It permitted searching by more specific criteria. The other
one was more "plain vanilla" and was what I used most of the time -- I would
click on the icon for search, enter a name or even part of a name, and then
when I clicked on one of the items found it would take me back to the full
thread. I really miss that capability, especially when someone makes
reference to something that was said in a thread that is far back in the
list on my server.

Thanks. Windows Mail lacks several features that I really liked in OE. I
do like Vista, but I don't understand why MS eliminated so many features
that were previously available.

Are you are using the 'Find' button search in the WM toolbar?
That allows you to view the resulting searched messages by conversation from
the view>current view options.

Probably trying to persuade more people to buy software packages
including Outlook, in spite of the extra cost.

Some of the missing features are available in Windows Live Mail.

That did it! I had checked previously, and everything was greyed out. By
following your suggestion, I did the search *first* and then changed the
options. Thanks very much.

Thanks,
MaryL
