Since the problem started right after you installed McAfee, the
obvious fix is to uninstall McAfee. Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee and Norton antivirus programs. As a test, uninstall your antivirus program, then reboot, and test Windows Mail again. If there is improvement, download and install a more compatible antivirus like: AVG free edition: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff or Avast free edition: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html With either of those, during the install phase you must select custom install, and then deselect the email scanning option. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (WLMail) "kateku" <kateku@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news 8C35CB8-EB17-403D-9E24-42040D77DF31@microsoft.com...> If anyone can help, I'm not able to receive messages in Windows Mail since > installing McAfee - I receive this message... > > Account: 'Judy', Server: 'shawmail', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR > Could not read message file', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: > 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90 > > any help would be greatly appreciated! > > Thanks, > > K > > -- > ![]() |

If Windows mail is not compatible with McAfee or Norton - surely this should
be addressed by these companies in order to prevent those of us affected by this? I run McAfee AND AVG Free. I think I will uninstall the McAfee [despite having paid for it for 12 months] and see whether it solves the problem of being unable to access Windows mail "Gary VanderMolen" wrote: > Since the problem started right after you installed McAfee, the > obvious fix is to uninstall McAfee. > Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee and Norton > antivirus programs. If your McAfee purchase was recent, you could try to get a refund
from them. I got a refund from Symantec (Norton) once, under their consumer satisfaction guarantee. (I was dissatisfied! ;-)) -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (WLMail) "Snowqueen" <Snowqueen@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:CB7D42DC-FD81-4DDF-8BE7-272C618AD9EF@microsoft.com... > If Windows mail is not compatible with McAfee or Norton - surely this should > be addressed by these companies in order to prevent those of us affected by > this? > > I run McAfee AND AVG Free.
