Can't install Vista 32 or 64 on SATA drive

I am having problems trying to figure how to get vista on a 400g SATA drive.
I have tried with both 32 and 64. When I boot from the disk and do a custom
install.. the drive just is not there. So I gave up on that and plugged in a
smaller IDE drive and of course Vista installs no problem and guess what.. I
can now use my Large Sata. Problem is that Vista runs extremly slow on the
IDE. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can move Vista to the SATA
drive or at least do a fresh install to it, then I could transfer my settings.

Did you check to see if you could see the drive in the BIOS before you
started the installation? Did you check the cables SATA from the drive to
the MB, did you make sure that it is getting power?

And does Vista contain the sata/raid controler drivers or do you have to
install these seperately during the installation.
Also are there any specific Bios settings required when using sata/raid
controler as the boot device?

During install, you may have to insert a SATA driver disk and hit F6 to load
those drivers. If your motherboard came with a SATA driver diskette, use
it.
If not visit your computer maker's Website and check to see if they have the
drivers available for download. If you don't have a floppy drive, that may
be
your only option - download the drivers to your IDE drive.

On the screen where you specify the partition to install Vista on there is a
link to "Load Driver" near the bottom left. Click on it and insert a
CD/floppy/USB stick with the driver for your SATA controller. Once the
driver is installed you should see the SATA disk.

Get sata driver disk. press F6 when or was it F8 when installation is
begining at installation media. Select safe mode install.
Install drivers when you get screen where is button for it.
