Hi,
Are you accessing the prompt in the manner described here? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392 -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "BIGGREG" <BIGGREG.37edz5@no-mx.forums.net> wrote in message news:BIGGREG.37edz5@no-mx.forums.net... > > Hi > Thanks for the reply > Only problem is at the recovery command prompt I get "command not > recognized", No command seem to work except for "dir", "cd", etc... > basic stuff, not even help to give me a list of what I can use. > > Help, Help > Greg > > > -- > BIGGREG |

Hi,
Did you try the BCD rebuild option in that article? Note that it's bootrec (without the 't'). -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "BIGGREG" <BIGGREG.37eqh2@no-mx.forums.net> wrote in message news:BIGGREG.37eqh2@no-mx.forums.net... > > Hi > Yes that works, but not "bootsect /nt60 sys" > also I did another "startup repair" and got "A patch is preventing the > system from starting" error message. 2 days earlier I did sp1 and was ok > for 2 days, the only other thing was diskeeper did a boottime defrag and > then it wouldn't reboot. That's why I'm trying to do a reinstall. > thanks > Greg > > > -- > BIGGREG |

Hi Greg,
Right click the drive, choose properties and on the security tab click advanced, then on the ownership tab click edit. Locate your account and change ownership of the drive to it, making sure to enable the option to propogate to all subfolders and containers. It will take a bit for the changes to filter through, but when complete you should have regained access to the drive. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "BIGGREG" <BIGGREG.37eyt3@no-mx.forums.net> wrote in message news:BIGGREG.37eyt3@no-mx.forums.net... > > Hi > yes, i tried all the rebuilding options, no help > i've now put a fresh install on another drive nad was going to rebuild > with the files and config from the old (i've done that with xp many > times), but in the new vista 64 it tells me the other drive with the old > vista on it is "acces deied"? > why? > > i'm rebuilding my dual boot to get into my xp pro, hopefully i can get > to the files then. > > help more > Greg > > > -- > BIGGREG |
