Hi all
I need help with a user. He installs online games like poker and bridge on his PC. He runs Windows XP Professional. I want to controll him not allowing him to install any programs or downloading files from the Internet. Is there an easy way to do this. This is a stand alone PC that is connected directly to the Internet by ADSL and no network at all. Hoping for a quick and easy answer. Thanks! Regards System Adm |

Use Group Policy and make sure your user is a standard user account. Take all the usual precautions for boot priority and strong passwords. Make sure there is a written corporate computer use policy. If that's not specific enough for you, then you need to give more information about this standalone computer and this user, including your role. Change his account to a standard user, not admin or power user. He can still
download - unless you disconnect him from the 'net there's no way around this - but he cannot install anything. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "System Adm" <System Adm@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:4620C7CB-7603-4FA5-B22C-C693C5CF5B34@microsoft.com... > Hi all > > I need help with a user. Hi Malke
Thank you for your reply. Please specify what I should do in Local user policy. The stand alone PC is running Windows XP Professional and is directly connected to the Internet. I'm gonna set up Windows from scratch because that employee downloads many programs with viruses so that PC is a mess. My role is administrator for that PC and his role is a standard user. I thank you for any help I get. Best regards System Adm "Malke" wrote: > System Adm wrote: > > > Hi all > > > > I need help with a user. He installs online games like poker and bridge on > > his PC. I thank you for any help I get. Since you apparently know nothing about Group Policy, I suggest you get a local computer professional to come on-site and set you up correctly. If this is not possible for you, look into MS Steady State. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pr...ss/default.mspx Or spend a great deal of time reading about security and deployment on TechNet. There is no way I - or anyone else - can teach you about Group Policy and setting up a computer securely in a few newsgroup posts. You need a good book on windows xp's group policy security options to do
what you want. With it you can even disable access to almost anything in XP. You can even prevent changing the desktop wall paper, access to properties when you right click on my computer.
