Unhappy CHKDSK Freezing - safe mode not loading.

Hi

My computer (running on windows xp) on start up automatcally goes inot CHKDSK and freezes at 'stage 2 of 3' after 2% complete.

I am not able to get into safe mode either, computer freezes and I have to switch it off. None of the options in the F8 start area seem to do anything.

I fear I might have to system recover.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix my problem or is a sytem recover the only option?

Thanks for any help.

Keith.
