Angry PC logging off after log on

When i log on to my home PC (Windows XP) with 5 user accounts, irrespective of which account i use, the system attempts to boot up, only to log off automatically.

I use F8 and try and boot up in safe mode and text scrols accross the screen.

Is it a virus or a hardware problem? What else can it be? I am unable to use my home PC. Very frustrating. Am on Wi_fi lap top now.

Thanks
