Hi All,
Dell Inspiron. Approximately 1 week old. I'm unable to use Windows Update or Control Panel. I'm trying to get SP1 installed. KB938371 failed to install locally and through WSUS. I visited Microsoft download, and installed KB937287 in lieu of the 371 patch. The 287 patch killes the licensing service, so Control Panel and Windows Update is now broken. I cannot get into control panel to uninstall. I cannot use the command line since I get an Access Denied on attrib.exe when attemtping to unhide the installed patches (so that I can uninstall from the command line). Below are the results. Any ideas? I'm ready to scream ![]() Jeff Jeffrey Walton From Event Log: The Software Licensing service failed to start. hr=0xD0000022, [2, 4] From cmd.exe: C:\Windows\system32>net start slsvc The Software Licensing service could not be started. A system error has occurred. System error 34 has occurred. The wrong diskette is in the drive. Insert *** (Volume Serial Number: ***) into drive ***. * Control Panel shows 0 applets * KB938371 did not install despite all efforts * I downloaded and installed KB937287 in 371's place None of these updates seem to work (wtf is going on with the testers?). |

To install SP1 from update service requires two preinstallation downloads -
update will not be oferred to an individual computer if certain requirements are not met. Free SP1 suport provided by Microoaft at: https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?ln=en-us&prid=11274&gprid=500921"Jeffrey Walton" <noloader@gmail.com> wrote in messagenews:e746d87f-180d-4ded-aaed-136b4e09a096@2g2000hsn.googlegroups.com...> Hi All,>> Dell Inspiron. Hi Ajr,
Thanks. It must be me. I probably used the wrong finger when I left clicked the mouse (or something similar)... > To install SP1 from update service requires two preinstallation downloads Apparently my configurations tanks after the first installation. So I can't get to the second. (WSUS and Control Panel are broke due to the licensing issue). Once the first is installed, I cannot uninstall it. Today I attempted to remove in Safe Mode. Those assholes do not allow the update to be uninstalled. The first guy disconnected my session and gave me a non-functional "reconnect" url. The second guy said "we only support SP1" and disconnected me. Apparantley SP1 support does not apply when the SP1 installation fails and breaks. If you have a solution please let me know. > Jeff > Jeffrey Walton |
