I ran XP, I installed Vista to the next partition, I want to eliminate XP,
but the Vista boot MANAGER is on the XP partition. I tried hiding the XP partition, booting the Vista CD and doing a repair (twice) but when it boots, it tells me NTLDR is missing. -- Kris ------------ DFI Infinity Blood-Iron P35-T2RL | E2200Alen 2.2@2.86 TtP0310 | | 2x1gb Mushkin HP 800@1040 | MSI NX8600GTS-OC 256mb | | Raidmax RX530-SS psu | Vista Ult 32 SP1 |

And the last time I booted into the Vista CD, it couldn't find Vista at all. If I put XP back in, it boots just fine. I know of no other way than to completely re-install Vista withoug XP present on the system - what a pain. Should have done that initially and used a 3rd party booter. -- Kris ------------ DFI Infinity Blood-Iron P35-T2RL | E2200Alen 2.2@2.86 TtP0310 | | 2x1gb Mushkin HP 800@1040 | MSI NX8600GTS-OC 256mb | | Raidmax RX530-SS psu | Vista Ult 32 SP1 |

With a diskeditor you can set the bootindicator at the Vista-partition. The location for the first partition is 0x01BE and for the second 0x01CE, active is the value 0x80. -- Met vriendelijke groeten, Jawade. Even if you remove the bootmanager, the choosen partition stays active. -- Met vriendelijke groeten, Jawade. Boot.ini on the XP partition "refers" to the boot manager when Vista is
selected via the dual boot menu.. If not familiar with BCDedit consider a third party boot utility such a VistaBootPro to provide for booting ditectly into Vista, "Jawade" <Henk_Jawade@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:MPG.22536e9f47ba3cd3989841@news.microsoft.com... > In article <14v431r4i3ctq.dlg@myhost7.org>, Kris <a@b.net> says... >> On Tue, 25 Mar 2008 07:15:11 +0100, Jawade wrote: >> >> > In article <17322sp97e1bo.dlg@myhost7.org>, Kris <a@b.net> says... >> >> I ran XP, I installed Vista to the next partition, I want to eliminate >> >> XP, >> >> but the Vista boot MANAGER is on the XP partition. The Vista BCD points to the XP partition for Windows boot manager and windows memory testor, and I know of no way to change those silly settings inside the BCD. I have 2 BCD editors and they only allow me to change the location of the boot loader. So no matter what I do, when I take the XP partition away, Vista can't boot. -- Kris ------------ DFI Infinity Blood-Iron P35-T2RL | E2200Alen 2.2@2.86 TtP0310 | | 2x1gb Mushkin HP 800@1040 | MSI NX8600GTS-OC 256mb | | Raidmax RX530-SS psu | Vista Ult 32 SP1 |

The reason is really that the bootindicator points to your old XP partition. Believe it or not, if you change the bootindicator, your ptoblem is over. The bootindicator sends 'him' to the partition where he starts from. -- Met vriendelijke groeten, Jawade.
