This problem may be caused by your antivirus program.
Windows Mail is not compatible with most versions of Norton and McAfee antivirus programs. Those must be uninstalled, not just disabled. After uninstalling the antivirus, try Windows Mail again. I have NAV installed, and it (windows vista mail) runs just fine.

With most of the Norton antivirus programs, Windows Mail
often runs just fine for months before the problems appear.
