Unworking links

This is the first time I tried to send a web link to a friend in need but
when I tried to see if it works before mailing it and it did not open the
web on a click, but it will open it on copy and paste. The link was:-
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/encyclopedia.html

What should I have done to make it open the web with a click on the address?

The link will not work in a mail composition window, to test your link prior
to sending the mail, save it to the Drafts folder Ctrl+S, test it there.

The reason it does not work in a composition window is that then you
wouldn't be able to edit it.
