Hello,

I have read through a boat’load of complaints about this in the Community
and nothing that actually states that there’s a bug or glitch with Vista.
Yet here I am dealing with this over and over and over again. I can boot up
my laptop and I can have a file on my desktop that I haven’t touched in a few
days or longer… I decide to delete it and I get told that the Recycle bin,
being the Destination Folder, is denying me access… and that I need
permission. I can go over and attempt to delete one folder after another and
out of say a dozen attempts, anywhere from 1 to 3 files will cause the
message to pop up. At that point I can’t delete them for the life of me…
“Until I reboot”… as soon as I reboot I can delete all the files that I was
denied with no problems.

I have attempted 3 experiments over the course of 6 weeks … I’ve taken
files, folders, movies, music, executable game links, ect totaling 35 and
I’ve gone out of my way to place them in different positions throughtout my
system (not that it should have any bearing on whats going on), I then go
over an access & then close each file, folder, ect throughout an entire weeks
time, in random order… shutting down my laptop each day and rebooting it the
next. The following week I “Never Open A Single File”… I perform one action
and one action only when it concerns the files in question… “ I either Drag
them directly to the Recycle Bin or I Highlight them and hit the Delete Key
“. I do this throughout the entire week one at a time, 5 a day, each day
shutting down my laptop and rebooting it the next morning. Out of the 3
attempts that I made here were my results;

1st week: As stated I did nothing more than to access/open each file and
then immediately close it.
2nd week: As stated, all files were only highlighted/selected and either
dragged to the Recycle Bin or directly Deleted via the Delete Key.
1st day, 1 out of 5 failed
2nd day, 0 out of 5 failed
3rd day, 2 out of 5 failed
4th day, 1 out of 5 failed
5th day, 1 out of 5 failed

3rd week: Again, nothing more than accessing/opening each file and then
immediately closing it.
4th week: As stated, all files were only highlighted/selected and either
dragged to the Recycle Bin or directly Deleted via the Delete Key.
1st day, 0 out of 5 failed
2nd day, 3 out of 5 failed
3rd day, 0 out of 5 failed
4th day, 1 out of 5 failed
5th day, 1 out of 5 failed

5th week: , nothing more than accessing/opening each file and then
immediately closing it.
6th week: As stated, all files were only highlighted/selected and either
dragged to the Recycle Bin or directly Deleted via the Delete Key.
1st day, 2 out of 5 failed
2nd day, 0 out of 5 failed
3rd day, 1 out of 5 failed
4th day, 0 out of 5 failed
5th day, 0 out of 5 failed

“Totals at the end of 6 week test”

Deleted with no problems or issues the first attempt “ 17 out of 30 “
Failed do to, “You need permission to perform this action” “Destination
folder access denied” . “ 13 out of 30 “

At the end of my test’s I then went over and attempted to delete all 13
files that failed and I was able to delete “ 9 out of the 13 “ with no
problem… I rebooted my laptop and was then able to delete the remaining 4
with no problem… That’s the funny thing. Everytime I’ve come across this
“You need permission to perform this action” “Destination folder access
denied” issue, I reboot and then I’m allowed to delete them. And there is
No-Way any programs or otherwise should be accessing some of these files
where as I had, in most cases just booted my system up and was just
attempting to do some desktop clutter cleaning… I didn’t need to access the
files, I just dragged them to the Bin… and WhaM! --“You need permission to
perform this action” “Destination folder access denied” .

I’ve been using computers for a living since “Windows 3.1 I believe it was
and I’ve upgraded all along the ride… ’95, 98’, 2k’, XP’, and now Vista
Premium… I have always been to sole user on each and every system that I’ve
had over the years and I have Never had this issue in the past…
