I looked around for what prices I could find on various antec models and it
looks like the Trio 650 is the best deal.. around $115 shipped.. Other options: --------------- Trio 550 for $110 shipped Earthwatts 500W for $90 shipped The EA500W on buy.com would be a slightly better deal ($72 + 13% tax = $81) but I don't own a CC and they do not accept *anything* else on the canadian site (I checked). The CA/US exchange rate is close enough to 1:1 so it doesn't make a difference which currency. It seems I have a choice between 13% tax (Canada) or $30 in shipping costs (USA). I'm thinking the wisest idea is to spend the $115.. I kinda like the 5 year warranty too.. Chris |

If my crystal ball were working I could tell you if these kinds of deals would be reocurring again anytime soon but don't know if it would even do any good not knowing how often the sales or rebates are valid across the Canadian border. Given the slight difference in cost, yes among those 3 the 650W seems worthwhile. Somehow it had escaped me that you'd incurr a 13% tax on the EA500. You might look into getting a debit card in lieu of a credit card, they're awefully handy for online purchases even if you can't still take advantage of the buyer protection many credit cards offer. I'm not always fond of using Paypal but if you're prone to use it anyway you might also consider applying for their debit card, https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webs...c_intro-outside which they claim works (anywhere?) a Mastercard would. One other thought is that sometimes Antec bundles PSU with cases where it doesn't cost much more to get a case with a suitable PSU in it, if you might have a need for another case that's something else to look into. |

I went with the 650W, and yes 13% tax on just about everything here, and on a really bad day I order something from across the border and the bastards hold that at the post office until I pay the taxes on it! (hoping it doesn't happen with this) >You might look into getting a debit card in lieu of a credit >card, they're awefully handy for online purchases even if >you can't still take advantage of the buyer protection many >credit cards offer. Got one - it's practically useless because I have to travel almost an hour to the nearest money-mart to refill it (can't do it from the bank or paypal). >I'm not always fond of using Paypal but >if you're prone to use it anyway you might also consider >applying for their debit card, >https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webs...c_intro-outside >which they claim works (anywhere?) a Mastercard would. Not an option for Canadians. To my knowledge they were offered for a *very* limited time here and no longer available outside the USA. I use paypal for almost 100% of my online purchases so it frustrates me to no end when a business I wish to deal with does not accept it. Nobody even takes money orders these days - everyone is going CC or nothing. >One other thought is that sometimes Antec bundles PSU with >cases where it doesn't cost much more to get a case with a >suitable PSU in it, if you might have a need for another >case that's something else to look into. If I was buying from a brick and mortar store I'd probably do that, but shipping for the PSU alone is already pricey enough ($30). Cross border shipping has gotten to be a joke too - $5 to ship a power supply anywhere in the states, and suddenly it jumps to $25 - $30 once you cross the border! Chris Chris |

Sounds like an opportunity to be a hardware vendor in Canada. |
