Default blue arrows, purple arrows ?

Will somebody please explain why they are of different colours ? And why
arrows at all ? They have to mean something.

Look at the computer screen. In front of each Subject (question heading)
there is an icon, sometimes with a little blue arrow, sometimes purple, and
sometimes both. Didn't you notice that ?

Hello jihchiang,

Those arrows in Windows Mail show that you have either replied to the post
in a newsgroup, forwarded a message, or replied to the sender of a message.
You'll also see them if you reply to or forward an email.
