i recently got the ASUS M3A mobo with the AMD Phenom 9600 and 4 gigs of ddr2 1066 crucial ballistix ram from a friend for a steal of a deal. It has been used, but all working on a windows XP machine. He moved over to Intel and installed all of this into another box for me, and i put vista on it. However now, i am only seeing 1 cpu no matter what program i use(task manager, cpuid, pcwizard, HWMonitor) and the ram is running at ddr2-800 (pc6400). I updated the bios to beta version 0601, was running 0301(initial release). If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, it would be GREATLY appreciated |

All editions of Vista can utilize one physical processor and however many
cores there are. The cores are seen as logical processors. A dual core cpu will appear as one physical and two logical processors. A triple core as one + three and a quad core as one + four. If you are not seeing this then you should make sure that you have installed any cpu driver needed for your board. Vista Business and Ultimate can utilize two physical processors and all the cores on each. Have you tried the MultiMeter gadget?

"Hello "Mausimo":
I have a Core2 Duo using Vista Home Premium and an Intel Q6600 Quadcore using Vista Ultimate and both show all cores in the processor. Vista seems to do a nice job of spreading tasks across all the cores. Task Manager shows a fairly even spread of CPU usage across all cores with occasional spikes on one core that quickly evens out to all cores. I don't know why Task Manager isn't showing all you cores but it may be due to the type of processor. AMD quadcores natively control the memory I/O and maybe that fools the Task manager into thinking there's only 1 core? Perhaps someone else with an AMD Quadcore will post what Task manager shows with their CPU. xiowan.............in tucson "Mausimo" wrote: > > i recently got the ASUS M3A mobo with the AMD Phenom 9600 and 4 gigs of > ddr2 1066 crucial ballistix ram from a friend for a steal of a deal. Without the chipset drivers, Vista has no clue. Go to www.intel.com and find the chipset identification utility, then find your chipset drivers. Q |
