Default Re: Print problems on Win Server 2003

Drivers for Windows 2000 are typically "driver model 2" - NT4 and 2000
whereas the XP and 2003 drivers are typically "driver model 3 - XP and 2003.

Unfortunately, when you have mixed 2000 and 2003 environment, sometimes
there are significant compatibility issues with printer drivers.

I tried to find information about your Canon C3200 on Canon's web site, but
unfortunately could find nothing. Is this an "ImageRunner", "ImageClass",
multi-function, inkjet or what?

If you can, I suggest cleaning up the print environment on the print
server - see for example
http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm. If a complete
cleanup is not practical, then at least ensure you have deleted the driver
for the problematic printer

Printers and Faxes
click File, Server Properties
select the Drivers tab
select the driver for the Canon C3200 and click Remove

In Windows 2003, that usually does a pretty good job of removing all parts
of the printer driver.

Make sure you have the printer driver specifically for Windows Server 2003
or XP and install it. Some manufacturer's package the driver only as an
executable, while others package them for installation via the Add Printer
Wizard. Check the documentation for the printer or driver.

I suggest if at all possible, replace the Windows 2000 with Windows XP.

You may also get better, more specific help from the printing newsgroups -
I've taken the liberty to cross-post to them.

It is perfectly useless to know the right answer to the wrong question.
