Default dvd/cd drive not working

Really hope someone can help. My drive stopped playing cd's and dvd's. I
can see the drive in explorer and can even see what is on the cd but it won't
play. Spent many hours working with HP and they determined my drive was bad.
Bought a new one and it is doing the same thing! Device manager shows the
drive with no problems. Have installed drivers, new media players and did
maintenance on the registry. Anyone got some ideas? I am at the end of my
rope. I had only used the old drive about 5 - 6 times and of course the
warranty just ran out.

Default Re: dvd/cd drive not working

Thanks for the response Joe. Unfortunately I have tried this and it still
does not work. HP tells me they think I have 2 bad drives but what are the
odds of this happening? I really think it is a Vista problem but can't find
anything to try. Any more suggestions?
